A Platform for Request Routing in Content Distribution Internetworks

چکیده

In this paper we discuss issues of design of a platform that can support effectively the internetworking of independent Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). Specifically, our work focuses on the design of the Request-Routing Internetworking System (RRIS), i.e. the entity responsible for forwarding client requests to the CDNs that can best satisfy them. In order to take routing decisions, the RRIS needs to maintain state information, such as content location and the performance of the CDNs holding that content. In this paper we examine in which manner this state information can be exchanged among the RRIS entities belonging to every CDN, and propose three possible approaches to the design of a content exchange information protocol.

Using P2P Techniques for Content Distribution Internetworking: A Research Proposal

In this paper we discuss the use of algorithms and techniques, currently deployed in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems, in the design of Content Distribution Internetworks (CDIs). Specifically, we propose a CDI design approach that addresses issues of request routing, content delivery, and replication, based on P2P techniques.

Caching and optimized request routing in cloud-based content delivery systems

Geographically distributed cloud platforms enable an attractive approach to large-scale content delivery. Storage at various sites can be dynamically acquired from (and released back to) the cloud provider so as to support content caching, according to the current demands for the content from the different geographic regions. When storage is sufficiently expensive that not all content should be ...

An economic mechanism for request routing and resource allocation in hybrid CDN-P2P networks

Hybrid content delivery networks (HCDN) benefit from the complementary advantages of P2P (Peer to Peer) networks and CDNs (Content Delivery Network). In order to extend a traditional CDN and enable it to offer hybrid content delivery service, we have modified a traditional domain name system-based request routing mechanism. The proposed scheme relies on an oligopolistic mechanism to balance the...

A client side measurement scheme for request routing in virtual open content delivery networks

measurement. The scheme is distributed, does not require any modification to the clients, and is compatible with existing client and server software. By experimenting on the existing Internet, we demonstrate that this measurement metric is highly correlated with total page loading time. Combined with Request-Routing, our measurement method provides an efficient client request redirection system...

Using Mobility Support for Request-Routing in IPv6 CDNs

Content distribution networks have become widespread in the current IPv4-based Internet, and request-routing in CDNs today are primarily based on DNS mechanisms. This paper considers request-routing in CDNs as and when IPv6 networks begin to be deployed. Unlike IPv4, IPv6 includes explicit support for host mobility. Specifically, the functionality and mechanisms of a separate protocol, such as ...
